The Bar-Kays are an American soul, R&B, and funk group formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1966. 米国テネシー州メンフィスが生んだ、ソウルとファンクの歴史を語る上で欠かせない伝説的グループ。オーティス・レディングのバックバンドとして名を馳せるも、1967年の航空機事故で大半のメンバーを失う悲劇に見舞われた。しかし、生存メンバーを中心に再建を果たし、アイザック・ヘイズのサポートや自身のヒットで作風をソウルから重厚なファンクへと進化。ホーン・セクションの鋭いキレと地を這うようなグルーヴを武器に、70〜80年代のダンス・ミュージック・シーンを牽引した、不屈の精神を体現する音楽集団。
